Where in the World is Mike Napoli?

The Washington Nationals announced a two-year, 24 million dollar deal to retain the services of Adam LaRoche and his sweet tattoo. What that means to Red Sox fans: we don’t have a first baseman. There were rumors (though a bit far-fetched) that the Napoli deal (which evidently is more complex than the Geneva Conventions) was not a priority because a trade for LaRoche was being discussed. Well, conversation over.

Peter Abraham, who has been kicking ass with his off-season Red Sox coverage, wrote about some of the Red Sox options if the elusive Mike Napoli doesn’t come to town. Not very promising, eh?

Remember when the Red Sox had too many guys to play first? And the dismal off-season continues…

Actually, Michael Morse is 30. But I'd like to see the Sox make a run at him if the Napoli deal ultimately doesn't pan out.

I would hardly call this a dismal off-season. I have liked the majority of Ben's moves this winter. No strangling long term deals, good clubhouse guys. Will they compete in 2013? Don't be surprised if they do.

Other than Hanrahan, I think they overpaid for average guys. I think I'd prefer Morse over the oft-injured Napoli.

I would like to see them go after Morse.

He is only 20 and has tons of power and a pretty good OBP.  I think of him as Willy Mo with an "actual" plan at the plate. (unlike Willy Mo's "swing at ball hard" plan)

I know BP is different than live pitching but some of his BP balls that I saw are hit this year were in places only steroid powered McGwire reached before.
