TheOmnipotentQ I agree. Maybe there’s something we don’t know? The moves are curious, in a thin market. Judgement is out, so we’ll wait for the first PBR induced coma by Red to be the judge.

While I don’t disagree, I also think that this year is going to be one of getting back to the basics that led us to 2004/2007 (primarily 2004). With the promising young guys either in Boston or waiting in the wings until 2014, 2013 could be a year to develop and explore some opportunities without completely giving the season away. That being said, the FA market is pretty bleak and it certainly isn’t worth it to overpay for the collection of players out there just to get something done, or just because we have the money in another Crawford situation.

I’m totally reserving judgment, Denton. Way too early to start giving up on 2013. FA market is very thin, so I’m betting Ben makes a big splash with a big trade. Or two.

Health can’t be assumed, but a full season of Will Middlebrooks should be an upgrade over 2012 Youk and the Pedro Ciriaco/Mike Aviles-lead cast of misfits.
The money for Gomes? Does seem like a premium based on history. We’ll know more about the OF market when Ross, Swisher, and Ichiro are signed. Maybe it will make more sense then.

Don’t necessarily disagree, but it’s not like Manny, Schilling, and Pedro are out there waiting to be got. Times are ever so slightly different.
