Damn, I Forgot The Red Sox Don’t Have A Closer!

by Denton on August 29, 2012

Miss me?

Just as I was putting the finishing touches on my Red Sox Bandwagon Re-entry application, I received a harsh reminder on the current contruction of the team. Alfredo Aceves isn’t a closer…this slipped my mind completely as I was basking in the afterglow of the trade. For those of you playying along at home, that was his ninth loss and eighth blown save of the season. Here’s what Aceves had to say after the game:

Aceves didn’t speak to reporters after the game, keeping his cellphone firmly to his ear while getting dressed and leaving the clubhouse.

I think we’ll be seeing a lot more Andrew Bailey in the ninth.

Damn, I've been out here since 1995 and a 4.1 would still freak me out. :(

The old cellphone planted to the ear trick?  Can't say I haven't done that myself.

It's distressing that Aceves' losses are the difference between being at most 1 game back in the wild card race and being at least ten games back.

After this dude retires, you know there will be a story of how he killed someone with a machete after the guy looked at him funny.

If he goes in to close again I've got my pitchfork, torch and old mr. boston whiskey at the ready. You just say the word and we'll storm the Henry Estate and hold him hostage until they release Aceves and instate Tavares as pitching coach.
