The send off today was why I was proud to be a Red Sox fan! Awesome he hits a triple – how poetic given he is a 3rd basemen and given that he gave his heart and soul, so sweet he got a send off like that. And even sweeter the fans knew what the fuck was going on. The only bummer was that Remy and Orsillo refused to put 2 and 2 together and say something appropriate to the moment.

Given that the trade deadline is still a month away I don’t understand the need to trade him so soon. Middlebrooks has been phenomenal but its only been 34 games. What if he seriously slumps or gets injured? It sure would be better to turn to Youkilis than Nick Punto!! Why not wait a few more weeks and see where the club is then? Was it really that necessary to get him off the team this quickly?

Very very sad. My kid is wearing his #20 jersey to his first day of day camp here in Northern NJ, in tribute.

I’m totally kicking myself for not getting Youk’s John Hancock when we had an opportunity at the last Spring Training game at Nationals Park. Kevin went 0-3 with one SO–a harbinger of a ticking clock in Boston. Wish it weren’t so. His snake-charmer batting stance will be missed.

I’m gutted about this. With Mike Lowell’s retirement at the end of 2010, Youk was my favourite player. I just moved to the US from England seven months ago and next week I’m finally getting to see the Sox in the flesh – I have tickets for the three games in Oakland. I knew he was probably going to be traded this year, but I assumed it wouldn’t be before the All-Star break, maybe at the trade deadline. But no. Gone sooner and before I see the team play. I don’t even get to see Youk play for the White Sox either, they have only one series in Oakland this year and it was in April. Bah, bah and thrice bah.
