Red, you nailed it. My earliest memories are of being at Fenway Park, back in the day when you could bring a cooler. My dad and my uncle would take me and my cousin and we would sit on the cooler in the aisle so we could see better. Yaz was my hero growing up. I got to see the Dream Team. And yeah, I have been there countless times since, and it NEVER fails to give me the goosebumps to be there.

I am officially a bad person, because while I am not holding my breath, I keep hoping that someday they will tear down Fenway Park and rebuild a modern stadium. I don't recall my first memory of Fenway, due to childhood illness. We went as frequently as I could convince someone to take me, usually 3-4 times per year.
Of course the summer before I turned 15, I started working for Aramark at Fenway Park. These are where most of my memories start, and I do have many. I like to tell stories in person, rather than on this board. Some of you know some of the stories, nobody knows them all.
I remember my high school english teacher threatening to have me suspended if I skipped school to work opening day. I did, and she didn't, and I worked every opening day for 4 years from 1995 to 1999. Sometimes I think of an alternate reality where my body held up and I never moved(and never got screwed over by Aramark) and kept the job and to this day still roamed the aisles of Fenway Park, cursing the old place and working the minimum allowed games. I still see guys I worked with from back then. I've forgotten their names but it's clear from watching them that they still love baseball. Just the way that I still love baseball, but I cannot claim to love Fenway. I do respect Fenway though. It was a great place to work as a teenager. These days my favorite place in Fenway Park is the Bud Roof Deck. I was hanging out up there before they ever rebuilt it, working for Aramark did have it's perks when it came to the park.
I remember asking the security guard if we could run the bases, after the last game of the season while most of the employee's where getting drunk at the party if the old 700 club(that's what it was called, I think). And he said i don't see why not, just be quick and just the two of you. I'd like to tell you I ran around with some girl, I'd like to tell you that. But he was just a guy I worked with. We got out on that field and instantly felt some mix of being a champion, a gladiator, and the luckiest people on earth. We ran and slid into every spot where you could make out the imprint of a base. It may have lasted for less than 5 minutes, but I'll always have that memory. That's my story, for tonight. Be excellent to each other!

My first memory of Fenway was a little kid at my first game in 1961 peeing into that God awful trough in the men's room. I instantly became pee-shy for years. Through the 60s and beyond I watched the place deteriorate until it reached its nadir in the late 90s under the Yawkey Trust.
What Messrs. Henry, Werner, Lucchino et al have done is nothing short of miraculous. I don't care if they make a trillion dollars....I've seen two WS Championships and the old ball yard has never looked better. Every time I walk up the ramp I'm that little kid again....except the place has better bathrooms and I'm no longer pee-shy.

Well written piece, Red.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Every time I make the drive up Brookline I feel like I'm pulling into my driveway. There is no better place on earth than Fenway. Even during a bad game, its never really bad.

Tix to 9 games this year including a couple of firsts. I'll be at my very first Opening Day this year, with the lovely Hayes. Just over two weeks away and I can't wait!!

@English Sox Fan @KTMFF Razor thin chance I'll be there. Looks my son is going to college at WPI, about 40 miles west of Boston. So if we traveling all that way and if I'm going to write a huge-ass check to some college, the very least I can do is drop yet more box on primo seats.
