This Just In: David Ortiz Can Still Afford the Large Fries

by Red on February 13, 2012

Because it is all about the money, I was happy to hear that the Red Sox and David Ortiz have successfully avoided arbitration, coming to agree upon a pretty sweet (for Papi) $14.575 million deal for 2012.

As is typically the case, it’s a little more than the Red Sox wanted to give and a little less than what Ortiz sought. But now that it’s all done, both parties can sit back, bask in the glory of their Hummers and mansions and moon rocks and private Jay-Z concerts and hovercrafts and robot armies, and set their focus on what’s truly important: baseball.

Well, I sure am glad The Ortz family can go out Sunday's after the game and not worry as they drive up to the McD's drive through window.
Can you imagine how scarring it would be to his son if they drove up and David told him that he may not be able to 'Supersize'?
That's the power of the extra $2M - to supersize or not to supersize, that is the question.

I am thinking his agent can buy a steak dinner on the $200,000.00 raise he just got (unless he is eating in Hollywood).

I am glad David supports economic recovery efforts!

I have appreciation and respect for what Ortiz has done in the past and what he means to the Sox, but shit like this really winds me up.

Players who have already banked tens of millions of dollars whining about respect and saying they have to look after their family whilst holding out for a couple of extra million which in the grand scheme of their vast wealth means precisely fuck all.

That couple of million could have been better spent strengthening the roster instead of being used to fellate Ortiz's already massive ego.

I wasn't impressed with his reaction to Tito's departure or his sulky, heavy-handed hints about going and play for the Yankees because the Sox weren't in a rush to sign him - let's not forget that little gem from a few months ago.

The big man has a lot of wonderful qualities, but the past few months have left a pretty sour taste in this Englishman's mouth.

Just my opinion.

It wouldn't be summer without The Large Father.
