It’s A Major Award

by Denton on November 2, 2011

The individual awards are pouring in for the Boston Red Sox. Gold Gloves for Ellsbury, Pedroia and Gonzalez. Silver Sluggers for Ortiz, Ellsbury and Gonzalez. And in my opinion, they all add up to salt in the wound of a third-place finish. These would have been icing on the cake of a World Series run. Spring can’t get here quick enough to wash away the memory of September 2011.

Love the pic—one of my favorite movies.

Did anyone else hear "chaaaching!" when reading about Jacoby's awards?

They celebrated at Lackey's apartment with wings and beer?

It reminds me of the pre 2004 days, when the only salve for a disappointing season, not making the playoffs were the individual player awards, as if the team racked up enough of them it would somehow make up for falling short. In the end we were deluding ourselves that our teams were better than what they really were.

You mean the memory of 2011...the downhill slide started in April.

Indeed. My dad's response when I txted him about the gold gloves - "now we need a cy young pitcher" - his exact words. Couldn't be more true.

@kiloismobile Look how far that took Detroit. An ace would be nice, but what I'd really like is 3-4 quality, healthy starters in October.
