November 2011

Everyone, please, click on over to ESPN and read Timmy’s ode to Bobby V. Back so soon? Wow, I haven’t seen a man-crush like that since the Lou Merloni/Nomar love affair. You would think you were reading about some decorated war hero or Nobel Peace Prize winner. In case you started feeling kind of creepy [...]

Well, Look Who Finally Showed Up

by Red on November 30, 2011

Interesting to watch the reaction to the Bobby Valentine hiring. Some Sox fans seem outraged, others seem curious as to what kind of effect Bobby V will actually have in the clubhouse, others just kinda shrugged their shoulders and said, “Whatever. When does baseball start?” That last group is the camp I’m in. Look, I [...]

Welcoming Bobby Valentine… with a song by Bobby Valentine. Oh and keep your fake mustache handy. You may need it some nights to get out of Dodge.

Anyone who wastes their precious time on this here blog knows I love me some Tim Wakefield. Need a go-to guy to eat up pointless innings, class up a clubhouse, chaperone the high school dance or marry your daughter? Wake’s your man. A journeyman non-complainer and bona fide nice guy who visits sick kids at [...]

Red Sox Manager Choice Down To Two

by Denton on November 27, 2011

It appears that Ben Cherington Larry Lucchino has it narrowed down to either Valentine or Lamont. Valentine has the advantage of being a master of disguise, but we’ve already had a preview Red’s magic if Lamont is hired. At this point, just hire someone and let’s get some baseball on.

Will It Be A Red Sox Thanksgiving?

by Denton on November 23, 2011

In November of 2003, shortly after another patented devastating playoff loss (one that played a big part in launching this very web site), Theo Epstein made a pilgrimage to Arizona that helped to change the history of the team. The trip put Theo on the doorstep of Curt Schilling, who ended up agreeing to be [...]

In 1968, Bob Gibson went 22-9 with a 1.12 ERA. Thirteen of his wins were shutouts and five of his losses were 1-0. The same year, Denny McLain won 31 games and had a 1.96 ERA. Both pitchers won the MVP award in their league, the only time in MLB history that has happened. Gibson [...]

With all due respect to Justin Verlander — and seriously, I’m happy for the guy — seeing him win the AL MVP yesterday made me even angrier about 1999. That was the year of Pedro. The year the pencil-thin guy from Boston dominated all other pitchers in the AL with 23 wins, a 2.07 ERA, [...]

No MVP For Ellsbury

by Denton on November 21, 2011

Jacoby Ellsbury finished a close second in the MVP balloting, losing 280-242 to Justin Verlander. Ellsbury was the Red Sox best player from April through September. Check out his stats: Ellsbury became the first player in Red Sox history to hit at least 30 homers and drive in at least 30 bases in the same [...]
