Ah - mornings after another win - and a Yankee loss. Hot Java and good tunes playing. This is the best time to review such literature and do some research.

The officiating does suck, but somehow not even that or the Sox propensity for men LOB has propelled us from into another deep blue funk.

I am not claiming there is divine intervention (though I ask for it) but we seem to have a 'hero of the week' club going. Then we get surprise performances like DMac somehow going Hulkster and bringing his avg up to .182 with a 2 for 3 night unlike one he has had since Grady Little got his pink slip.

Back to the umps - let's not get tunnel vision. McClelland is only one of MANY huge umpiring guffaws we have seen recently. Just ask the Pirates or most recently Buck Showalter about 'seeing eye umpires'.

Do we need a rating system for umps? Maybe we do but maybe we also need something else - humility. The umps seem to be 'Godlike' out there these days. When was the last time you saw an ump call time and say "let me confer with another ump who had a better angle". I hate instant replay for anything other than the disputed Home Run call. We don't need to slow the game down any more than it is. Some how, some where we need to bring common sense back to baseball.

I have an idea. Let's have an Agent vs. Ump game. We can get them out there and let fans officiate the game. Then their salary would be determined on the outcome....hmmmm (sorry I often fall into such fantasy mode).

My rant is over. We won. The game was not pretty but definitely entertaining. Are they instituting an award for team total LOB this year? We would definitely win that one. Happy Soxday everyone!
