Fenway Futures

by Denton on August 22, 2011

I had a chance to check out the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader featuring the Portland Sea Dogs against… some other team. For all the great things you hear about the Red Sox farm system, this game wasn’t pretty. Other than good starting pitching from Charlie Haeger and a home run from Alex Hassan, the Sea [...]

Lesterized

by Denton on August 21, 2011

If you need a win, you call Jon Lester. As Red explained, this game was as important as any game in mid-August against the Royals can be. It meant either limping into Texas with a split, or roaring in with a 3-out-of-4. Lester delivered, limiting the Royals to just three hits while the patchwork offense [...]

I know it’s important to never take wins for granted or expect a lesser team to roll over. But for chrissakes–it’s Jon Lester against the Kansas City Royals. If we can’t take a series from these guys, I’m going on an Eggo-and-whiskey binge for the rest of the month.

A horrible thought occurred to me while watching the Royals and Red Sox re-enact Conquest of the Planet of the Apes last night, with the Royals playing the apes and the Red Sox playing the humans. And that thought was: What if Wake doesn’t get his 200th win this season? It seems unthinkable, but… what [...]

Members of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, I hope you were taking note of last night’s NESN Red Sox telecast. Because the sight of Don and Jerry sporting chicken hats was pretty much the best thing to show up on my worthless TV screen since Megan Fox played the hot granddaughter on Two [...]

“Shit, I dunno. Maybe the Red Sox. Yeah, maybe they win by two or three runs. I guess that sounds right. I don’t really give a f$%k, man. The whole world’s gone to shit. That last season of Laverne & Shirley where Cindy Williams left and the show was just Laverne? That was pretty much [...]

It’s not bad enough he crushed our World Series hopes in 2003, but he has to have a smokeshow for a wife? It’s finding things like this that almost make me not surf the net and do real work while I’m in the office. Almost. I’m predicting a little Friday Night Lights-Out for tonight’s game. [...]

With a three-games-in-two-days stand in Boston sandwiched between a trip to Seattle and a jaunt to Kansas City, the Red Sox’ current travel schedule seems to have been conjured by a couple drunk guys tossing pins at a map or, perhaps, Cheech and Chong. Leave it to Josh Beckett to put things in perspective and [...]

Youkless

by Denton on August 18, 2011

The schedule-maker didn’t know it at the time, but he was giving us a nice mid-August gift. The Sox will play four against the Royals, but they’ll be doing it without the services of both Youkilis and Ortiz. Big Papi is still rocking the “soft boot” and Youk just went to the DL with his [...]

The Shirt Says It All.

by Red on August 18, 2011

And tonight, the shirt says, “No more screwing around. We are the team with (currently) the second-best record in the American League playing the team with the second-worst record in the American League. If there was ever a time to go Rise of the Planet of the Apes on somebody’s ass, it is now.” Thank [...]
