What now? Let me tell you what now. I’ma call a coupla hard, pipe-hittin’ brothers, who’ll go to work on the homes here with a pair of pliers and a blow torch. You hear me talkin’, hillbilly boy? I ain’t through with you by a damn sight. I’ma get medieval on your ass.
Must agree: If the starters cant go 6 then you have issues. And when they do, giving up 5 in a bad way (walks, HBP, and just sucking in general) leads to an ERA of 7 plus. That is not a #5 starter.
I say put LAckey on the bereavement list, and call up someone from the Paw Sox that is working their butt off trying to hit the bigs. Isn't that the purpose of the farm? and Wake should stay in the rotation, period. And Miller should slot in until he proves he can't pitch.
To hell with the pipe, pliers & blow torch. They can use the Sox bats, since they're not being used for anything else good.
Hell, he doesn't even need to go on the DL. Just give him time off to take care of his wife. I honestly think 90% of his problem is the stress of that situation right now.
I approve of this message. Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
On the bright side the Yankees lost to the Reds so we still own the division despite running out Wakefield - Miller - Aceves - Lackey.
@Sharpie That's probably the best suggestion I've seen all week.
@StacyB 100% of his problem is that he sucks.
@Richinthegarage miller is a possible solution (I forgot all about him), they will have to test him against the AL East before he gets the spot. If he works out, I'd be willing to bet frankona will keep Lackey in the rotation and send Wake back to the pen.
@BB.13 I never suggested that he be shit canned, I said he was soft, which he is. I ridiculed him for taking a full season to recover from a rib injury. A broken rib cost him an entire season. I still can't say that without scorn...regardless of how he's playing now. I wanted to fire Claude Julien as well...how'd that work out? Here is a shocker for you, I'm not always going to be right and I certainly wont let that stop me from having an opinion. Lackey needs to pitch, you are right. Unfortunately right now for whatever reason he has lost that ability. I can only hope that aliens have stolen his talent to use in an intergalactic baseball game (Space Jam anyone?) and that when Manny returns to earth he will restore his talent along with JD Drew's.
Right now the best option in my opinion is to keep Wake in the 4 slot and see what Miller has as your 5th starter. There is far more upside to a left hander in his 20's who throws in the upper 90's than there is to a John Lackey who, understandably, is shook up over his off the field issues.
The padres have the 2nd best bullpen in the NL, so the fuck what, the red sox have a lineup that shouldn't be held to one run.
lackey needs to pitch, that's what lackey needs to do. what are the choices, wake is already filling in for matzusaka... pretty doubtful that theo is going to come up with anything to replace him. so ya, lackey needs to pitch, he needs to eat some innings and limit the opposing teams to 4 or so runs, when he pitches the bats HAVE to win the game, like it or not, that's the way it is.
.... and aren't you the guy who wanted to shitcan ellsbury?
@BB.13 Believe it or not the Padres have a pretty solid pitching staff for a team in dead last. You can't expect the team to put up 12 runs a night, sooner or later your pitchers have to help out. I wouldn't be pissed about it if the runs were earned, but for fucking serious, walking in runs and wild pitches? Lackey needs to find a nice comfortable seat on the bench and plant his 86 million dollar ass there for the remainder of his tenure in Boston.
@Richinthegarage you seem to be missing the point - most of the people here always blame any pitcher not named beckett or lseter for a loss. sure, lackey and acceves sucked - but the fuckinfucks with the bats sucked too. neither lackey or aceves put the sox in a hole that they shouldn't have been able to climb out of.
