If my math is correct, the Sox would have to win all of their remaining games while the Rays played .500 ball just to tie. I guess it’s still better odds to think the Sox could pass the Yankees based on the six remaining head-to-head games. But even the most stubborn fans have to know by now that it’s over. So what do we do for the next 13 games?

For me, the most interesting race is the AL Cy Young battle taking place in the East. Sabathia got his 20th win, but Buchholz (16 wins) and David Price (17 wins) have better ERA’s while Lester still has a shot at 20 himself. Thursday night, Sabathia and Price go head-to-head in the Bronx.

Other than that, I pray to Gammons and the baseball gods that the Yankees and Rays fail miserably in the post-season. It’s all I have left until spring.
