We talk a lot about the chemistry between Don and Jerry, and there’s no denying that their combined powers could probably knock out communism, swine flu and Beyonce for good. But I’m also intrigued by the Jim Ed-Amalie Benjamin dynamic. They don’t share a lot of screen time, but when they do, something in my mind just screams, “sitcom!” I’m thinking maybe a reverse-Webster in which wealthy ex-ballplayer Rice adopts precocious journalist-in-training Amalie and together, they share laughs, adventures and a few heartwarming moments (in fact, I’ve already scripted one episode in which Jim warns Amalie about “lettin’ anyone in the on-deck circle after the prom.”).
As for the other side of the desk, I’ve got another pitch about Tom Caron and Dennis Eckersley as former college pals who open a hair salon. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
