After taking two-out-of-three in the hellhole that is Tropicana Field, I thought the Sox would be able to win anywhere. Then they traveled to Chicago where they have taken two giant steps backwards. This is a sub-500 team in a crappy division taking the Red Sox to school. They have pissed me off to the point that I am calling the division race over. Eight-and-a-half back when they can’t beat the White Sox is an insurmountable lead. It is only because the Orioles bailed them out that the wild card lead isn’t down to a single game.

Thankfully, it is Jon Lester’s turn in the rotation. In his last six starts, Lester has pitched at least six innings and has not allowed more than three runs. He is only 4-2 in those starts, but his two losses came against the Rays and the Yankees: he only gave up one run in each start. He needs to be the stopper today. I just don’t have enough drinking money to see the wild card race go down to the wire.

Based on my long-standing record of mushing teams and players by making bold predictions, I will only say “good luck.”

Can’t do it: seven shut-out innings by Lester!
