After another disappointing showing by the offense, the Red Sox pulled the trigger to add a bat to the line-up. Hunter Strickland (Portland SS) and Argenis Diaz (Greenville RHP) are now speaking Pirate while the Sox shuffle the roster to fit Adam LaRoche.

Here’s what you need to know:

LaRoche is 100% Mexican – his father changed his surname from Garcia, the name of his stepfather.

LaRoche’s first name is really David.

He hits homeruns and doubles and strikes out a lot, not the typical OBP guy Theo looks for. His 162-game average is 26 bombs, 89 RBI and 40 doubles, with a .269 batting average.

One interesting stat that Theo was probably well aware of is LaRoche’s season splits. He has been significantly better in the second half over his career. He is also an above-average fielder at first base which could come into play depending on Lowell’s health and Papi’s bat.

I’m glad the deal didn’t include Manny Delcarmen as originally rumored. LaRoche will join the team Friday. As for tonight:

1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
4. David Ortiz, DH
5. Jason Bay, LF
6. J.D. Drew, RF
7. Mark Kotsay, 1B
8. Jason Varitek, C
9. Nick Green, SS
— Clay Buchholz, SP

A win would be nice…
