I understand (to a point) why fans collect sports memorabilia, I have some of my own. But I guess I draw the line at wanting to own something because one of my favorite players killed it. The Splendid Splinter’s third wife held an auction over the weekend that included a mounted buffalo head and a zebra pelt.

Nick Peck already had a cherished souvenir, the Winchester rifle Ted Williams used to kill a Cape buffalo ( its mounted head sold for $550). Peck said he bought the gun in the 1970s from Williams through a mutual friend “because it was Ted’s.”

550 bucks for a stuffed buffalo head? I’d be looking more in the price range of a couple of victims from one of Ted’s Roach Motels or maybe a squirrel he accidentally ran over in his driveway. What next…
