You know what’s even cooler than watching Manny swat home runs as casually as the average man pours a bowl of Cookie Crisp? It’s watching people watching Manny hit home runs. Here’s his second home run of tonight’s 7-5 win in the Bronx (made even more interesting by a rare Papel-Bot miscue in the ninth). You can almost hear the air get sucked out of Yankee Stadium, as a million heads turn skyward and the crowd’s thoughts slowly turn to other things, like petty larceny or hanging Mussina by his jock from the overpass at 8th and Broadway.
I like the look on Beckett’s face when Manny gets back in the dugout. Clearly Commander Kick Ass approves. And so do we.
