You want a great moment in Red Sox trade deadline history? Here it is: An astute reader e-mailed us to point out that today marks the tenth anniversary of the day that the Boston Red Sox traded the exquisitely-named Heathcliff Slocumb to the Seattle Mariners for a coupla guys named Derek Lowe and Jason Varitek.

Now, I’m far too hungover to seek out my dogeared baseball reference materials, but I’d dare say this was probably the most impactful trade in the history of the Boston Red Sox. If for no other reason than it gave us this magic moment, which became the goddam mission statement of the 2004 Red Sox:

Happy anniversary, Cap’n. And our best to you as well, Dr. Lowe.
