Hey, at least it’s the playoffs, right?

I don’t want to dwell on last night’s spirit-crippling loss to the Yankees, but I will say this. The post-game produced three of the most depressing quotes I’ve heard all year:

“It had a lot of similarities to the playoff game last year,” Yankees starter Mike Mussina said. “History tends to repeat itself — but usually not that quickly.”

and

“I wouldn’t have left him in if I thought he was out of gas,” Francona said. “I thought he was in command of what he was doing. I thought he deserved to stay out there and actually the reason he stayed out there is because I thought he was going to get them out.”

and

“What can I say — just tip my hat and call the Yankees my daddy,” Martinez said. “I can’t find a way to beat them at this point.”

Oh, Pedro. Our warrior. Our Dominican K Machine. “Call the Yankees my daddy”?!?

Say it ain’t so.
